What is a Bank Account QR Code?
A bank account QR code is a scannable image that stores your bank's SWIFT code, your account number, and your name in a machine-readable format. When someone scans your QR code with a mobile banking app or payment platform, it automatically fills in the transfer details — eliminating typos and speeding up transactions.
In Nepal, QR code payments have grown rapidly with the adoption of mobile banking apps from banks like Nabil, NIC Asia, Global IME, and digital wallets such as eSewa and Khalti. Is it safe to share your bank QR code? Yes. The QR code can only be used to send money to your account — it does not expose any withdrawal credentials. It contains exactly the same information visible on a printed cheque.
